Artist of the Month
Caroline Dea graces the Conference Room walls this month with paintings focusing on Florida birds, favorite flowers and special places. She also has one painting of her granddaughter.
A few of Caroline’s scenes are also ones she painted while spending time in other countries. Let yourself enjoy the soft hues of colors as well as one that offers a 3D effect.
We also extend a hearty thanks to Caroline for giving our mailbox used during the past three years a Beach feel. The painting on the mailbox continues to be attractive but we needed to replace the mailbox as the front door hinges had rusted through. We have replaced the mailbox and Caroline will be adding Beach scenes again to this mailbox.
Trigiani
If you’re looking for a fast paced, abundantly charming read, consider the fiction titles of Adriana Trigiani. Her stories are beloved by millions of readers around the world. Raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a small coal mining town experiencing a large Italian family she weaves in many aspects of her personal life as she writes. Interestingly, Big Stone Gap has 4,800 residents and was the site of the first WalMart in Virginia.
If you haven’t tried her books, start with “Big Stone Gap,” and follow it with “Big Cherry Holler,” “Milk Glass Moon” and “Home to Big Stone Gap” (TRI). While the novels can be read as stand alones, it’s helpful to get the big picture by starting with the first and seeing the development of place and characters.
Since 2000, Trigiani has given fans a book a year. So, in-between reading the above series, you can sample “Lucia, Lucia, The Queen of the Big Time” and “Rococo,” both instant New York Times bestsellers.
Once you’ve digested the above titles, then treat yourself to her latest “Very Valentine,” which is scheduled to be follow with a sequel “Encore, Valentine” in February, 2010.
Construction
Our building plans are still on hold as the bank situation of not having funds to loan has not changed. We hear a lot about stimulus packages but so far it seems like it takes time before the actual money is available.
If you’ve added a donation in the Construction Fund donation box near our model of the new expansion, thank you. A note of gratitude also to those who sent in donations. Every dollar that is added to this Fund is a dollar we do not need to borrow. We are glad that the Fund continues to grow and are grateful to those who make it happen.
