Beach author to speak at Fort Myers’ Burroughs Home

3 min read

Three authors with ties to Lee County will be featured during a “Historical Fact and Fiction” program Saturday, March 28 at the Burroughs Home at 2105 First Street in Fort Myers.

Fort Myers Beach resident Edwina Raffa as well as Fort Myers’ Annelle Rigsby and former Fort Myers’ Prudy Taylor Board will discuss their latest publications, answer questions about their books, and will have books on hand for purchase and signing.

The day of reading is being provided by the Uncommon Friends Foundation in conjunction with Lee County Library System’s annual Reading Festival. Historical themes with local references make these authors a “must read.”

Raffa, a children’s author, will appear from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. She is a graduate of Florida State University and received a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. After teaching six years, she pursued a career as an elementary school counselor and was chosen Lee County Counselor of the Year. She is co-author of Race to Kitty Hawk, Escape to the Everglades, and Kidnapped in Key West. These books also feature an optional teacher’s Activity Guide that includes reference to historical characters, the Florida State Sunshine Standards, and more.

Board, a former Fort Myers resident, is an award-winning author/editor of over 1,000 newspaper and magazine articles, as well as having co-authored seven novels and 15 non-fiction books. Her current hit, Murder a la Carte, is available now through online purchases and fine bookstores everywhere. She will appear from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.

The cost for this two-author event is $5 per person. Uncommon Friends Foundation members, teacher members, and children are free. Bring your blanket and feel free to find a spot on the lawn as this majestic river front property is the perfect place to cozy up with a good book. The property will be open until 3:00 p.m. Reservations may be made by contacting the Uncommon Friends Foundation at 239-337-9505.
