Assembled team and community members discuss Bay Oaks future

1 min read

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Finance Director Evelyn Wicks, Local Planning Agency Chairman Denny Weimer and roughly 50 community members shared ideas on the fate of Bay Oaks Recreation Center and its surrounding facilities at the monthly FMB Civic Association meeting Tuesday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at 3751 Estero Blvd.

The two town staffers along with three other appointed citizens were assembled by the Town Council to act as fact finders in the ongoing negotiations between Lee County and the Beach on the purchase of the popular Oak Street facilities. Many funding ideas for Bay Oaks were discussed in the initial-phase meeting.

The county and beach had a five-year interlocal agreement until Oct. 1, 2008 that was extended indefinitely.
