Longtime editor will be missed
It was sad and unexpected news to hear Charlie Loucks say he was retiring from the Observer.
Charlie was a great friend and supporter of all the non-profit clubs and organizations on the Island. He was always available to talk with our club
committee chairs who needed publicity for each special meeting or fund raising project.
Charlie understood that all these groups- the Woman’s Club, Historic Society, Civic Association, Mound House Friends, etc., were giving all the funds they possibly could to charities or for community betterment and he never pressured the clubs for ads for the paper.
He often sent the paper’s photographer to cover Club’s major activities. Charlie’s coverage of town council meetings and controvercies always gave the straight facts without editorializing.
Charlie loved this Town and community, and he worked hard to help it grow and maintain a friendly, cooperative optimistic environment.
Charlie, you will be greatly missed. Thank you. Bless you.
