Firefighters fight morning fire on Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District (FMBFCD) responded to a reported residential structure fire, shortly after 9:00 a.m. Jan. 14. Upon arrival at the residence, located at 266 Curlew Street, firefighters found smoke coming from the second story of the home. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes of arrival on scene and had completely extinguished the fire shortly thereafter. Firefighters located the fire in the attic space of the second story.
FMBFCD responded to the call with two engines, two ambulances, one ladder truck and several support units including Battalion Chief 31. Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County EMS, Iona-McGregor and Bonita Springs Fire Districts all provided operational and logistical support.
No one was injured in the fire; the home was occupied when the fire broke out, but thanks to the alert of smoke detectors the resident was able to evacuate safely.
Investigators estimate the damage to the home between $300,000 and $500,000. Arson has been ruled out and investigators believe the fire started in the attic space above the master bedroom.
