DeCarlo Fnd.’s next Adopt-a-Road Clean-Up Sunday
Dedicated to continuing the memorable tradition of island local Michael DeCarlo and all of his humanitarian endeavors, friends and family gathered to establish the Michael DeCarlo Foundation, to help the community of Fort Myers Beach and its many non-profit charities.
Adding to its list of services, the foundation joined the Adopt-a-Highway program in April through the Florida Department of Transportation. Now the stretch of San Carlos Boulevard, between Pine Ridge Road (7-11) and Gladiolus Parkway (CVS) has been dedicated in Michael’s honor, with a sign posted at each end, and foundation members are elated of its location, eager to host its next Adopt-a-Highway clean-up day for all interested in joining.
“Our next installment of the Adopt-a-Highway program for our Michael DeCarlo Foundation will take place Sunday, Aug. 23, at 8 a.m., meeting up at in Gulf Point Square (plaza with Big Lots) near the CVS parking lot, and all are welcome to join us, help out and have fun while they’re at it,”?said foundation vice president Lena Neroni.
During the foundation’s first clean-up day in May, although 25 registered, only eight made it out. Benefit staff is hoping the turnout is much greater the second time around.
“It only took us about two hours during the first installment, but the more that attend, the quicker it gets done and the more pristine we can keep our beautiful strip of road Michael’s Road,” Lena encouraged.
All necessary safety gear and equipment will be provided, as well as water to keep you cool, and those joining the team should bring sunscreen and wear brightly colored clothing.
“After we’re done, we’ll all meet at Valerie’s for $1 bloody marys,”?Lena said.
To RSVP for the Adopt-a-Road clean-up crew, call Lena, 239-878-1565, and feel free to visit the Michael DeCarlo Foundation page on Facebook.
The Michael DeCarlo?Foundation is obligated to clean up this stretch of roadway four times each year. Stay tuned to the Beach Bulletin for further upcoming events scheduled with the local foundation.

Helping the community
Whether it’s through the Michael DeCarlo Foundation, or an individually organized event, Lena and her team do what they can to help the island community and several local organizations who reside within.
BINGO nights are held three times a week (Mondays, 2 to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m.; and Saturdays, 2 to 5 p.m.) at Valerie’s Lounge, 17264 San Carlos Blvd., raising funds for the local Tabarrini Foundation, who often donates the proceeds to other charities/locals in need.
The next Christmas for Beach Kids benefit is coming up, collecting new toys for the children of the island. DeCarlo Rocks Music Festival is scheduled to hit the calendars in the winter, and the sixth annual Walk the Walk for Breast Cancer, held at The Mermaid, 1204 Estero Blvd., hits the pavement in October. Stay tuned to the Beach Bulletin for any other events that are near.
