LightMark Productions and Fear No Fin Apparel along with the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce have all joined forces to host a very special event to raise awareness of our gorgeous island and the importance of clean water hoping it will go viral.

The Fort Myers Beach Wave Challenge encourages all to head down to the island Saturday to participate in a large “wave” down the shore, starting at noon.

We all know what “the wave” is. A few people stand up throwing their hands in the air and everyone follows after that. Now you can put that simple-but-fun motion to use in helping raise water quality awareness.

Originally expecting maybe 100 people to make it out to the event, co-owner of LightMark Productions and lead coordinator of the inaugural event RJ?Snider thinks it will be even more than that.

“So far, everything has been really positive so far people really seem to be on board with making this event viral and it’s a first of its kind. This is a social media experiment to draw awareness to our water quality issue and help increase awareness for our great beach,” he said. “We were trying to come up with a unique way to draw attention to our beach and shed light on an important issue, water quality. Tourism is a very important industry for Fort Myers Beach and hopefully this event and video will show our potential guests how great our beach is.”

During the great shoreline feat, RJ?and his team will record the massive “wave,” in an effort to get other shoreline communities to participate and help raise awareness. LightMark Productions, a local photography/video/aerial solutions company, will send up a batch of drones to capture the great feat, with one going Live on Facebook.

“We will have everyone line up along the beach and do the wave down and back a couple times to get the shots we need on camera,” RJ?said, “We will use this video to challenge other beaches to see if they can get a bigger wave! We are now hoping to see even more than 100 people involved this year.”

There’s no cost to attend the event, and as the awareness grows, RJ?hopes to add vendors, merchants, prizes and giveaways to the shoreline gathering.

“As this is the first year, we do not have vendors or entertainment, but that is something we are planning on adding as we grow this event. We would like to have this be an annual event on the beach,” he said. “Join us April 8 by the Fort Myers Beach Pier.”

As RJ stated, there’s no cost to attend the event, and all are welcome to join. Add this event to a fun way of spending the day in Fort Myers Beach paradise.
