Popeyepalooza started as just a simple gathering at the home of longtime island resident Mike “Popeye” Dearden. As a professional chef for more than 30 years, he cooked up an enormously fantastic barbecue spread, had some friends and acquaintances over, and just took up a donation/collection to help the local kids. From there it has grown and grown to become what we have today.

Over the years, Popeye along with his very helpful staff of volunteers and hosting establishments has been able to raise thousands for the local children’s organizations, and plans to continue the tradition, hosting his next annual Popeyepalooza BBQ benefit at the Beach Pub 1668 I St., Sunday, May 21, starting at noon.

Look forward to live music performed all day long. along with a wealth of raffles, prizes and 50/50s, silent auctions, and, Popeye’s infamously well-known smoked barbecue treats.

As it’s still early, anyone wishing to make donation to the non-profit charity organization in the form of a prize for the auctions/silent auctions, get in touch Popeye anytime, 239-244-4437.
