The Jeb Taylor Band — Local band sweeps the beach

They’ve performed with other band mates as the Beach Baptist “church band” for years, but these guys are stepping away from the pews (a couple days a week) and stepping up to local venues around the island. Known as the Jeb Taylor Band, this five-piece group is one big family of Pastor Shawn Critser and his wife, Sherri, and they’ve really started to make a name for themselves in the area.

“Their following has become too big for some venues. I suppose it’s a good problem to have,” laughed dad and sound man, Shawn. “They’re a great up-and-coming group on the beach, playing a great variety of songs, from reggae, folk and Mumford-and-Sons-type music to indie and even some good classic rock hits.”

As the band jammed from the waterfront stage at Bootlegger’s BBQ Monday evening, the crowd cheered for more. They do, indeed, have a great following.

You’ll hear anything from Oasis and Sublime to the Dirty Heads and more during a Jeb Taylor Band set, all fun, light and upbeat music that’ll put (and keep) you in a good mood.

With Staples Alan on lead vocals and guitar, Shawn Taylor on guitar, Nate Gillett on piano, Andre Boone on drums and Craig Nelms on bass, the Jeb Taylor Band is proud to be jamming at Bootlegger’s pretty frequently in the coming months, including May 2 and 23, and June 12, 14 and 20.

“They’re a fun group, and you may even see mom, Sherri, take the stage to sing a few songs. They’re a talented group and they have a lot of fun up there,” Shawn said.

You may also catch the group in Times Square during an upcoming show. They’ve been proud to perform with Rail Head during a previous concert in the square, and are open to playing other local venues, weddings and other private functions.
