Cooking Rocks! Locally produced Web show offers fans a chance to rock with the band
As Texas band Flyleaf prepares for their Fort Myers concert coming up Friday, Feb. 26, they’ll be preparing their appetites way before then. Starring on the locally-recorded Web show Taste of Music, the band will be preparing a Tex-Mex style brunch before their performance Friday night, giving locals a chance to win a date with the musicians and crew.
To top it off, a few lucky winners will be cooking with Taste of Music and the band during the recording, as well as sitting down and enjoying the specially prepared meal, followed by rocking out at their concert later that night.
“Taste of Music is looking forward to having Flyleaf as a part of the show and really looks forward to sharing their taste of food with viewers and fans,” said Mandi Dixon, producer of the show. “You’ll find out that, just like music, we all have different taste.”
The show is organized and run by Anthony Proffitt, a local DJ-turned-TV-Rock-Show entrepreneur, starting the program in February of 2009.
“The whole idea started when Anthony was doing a radio show with Chad from Nickleback,” Mandi said. “The whole time, they were talking about making pierogies and how to cook them. Anthony thought it would be an awesome idea for a TV show.”
Although the show is primarily on the Web right now, plans are in the works to pitch it on TV soon.
“It’s all about finding out what their taste is all about people always assume because these rockstars are on the road, everything’s catered. But that’s not true,” Mandi said. “So many like to cook for themselves. Taste of Music is our way of showing that.”
Past shows include Saving Abel’s Scott Bartlett showing the audience how to make his mom’s favorite horseradish sauce (since they do lots of barbecuing while on the road), and Emma from Sick Puppies (along with the rest of the band) learning how to make sushi (one of her fave foods) with local Blu Sushi artists, as well as artists from Shinedown, Nonpoint, Theory of a Deadman and Puddle of Mudd.
