Annual Toys for X-Mas and Holiday Run at the Beach Pub
The Beach Pub, 1668 I St., is holding its annual Toys for X-Mas benefit fund-raiser and poker run Sunday, Nov. 15, with registration at 10 a.m. and bikes out at 10:30 a.m. The cost to ride is $10 per poker hand.
“I’m always excited to hold this benefit, for all the good that it does for our community especially in these hard economic times,” said Lou Caleca, owner of the Beach Pub and organizer of the annual event. “I feel it’s specially important to continue it right now.”
During the benefit, there will be plenty of live music, food, 50/50s and prizes, as well as “lots and lots of raffles donated by the local merchants. It’s going to be lots of fun for all,” Lou said.
Live entertainment will play all day, with Steve the Lucky Dog Lutke starting up around noon, followed by John and Daisy, known as the duo Elijah, and Joel should wrap-up the music, taking the stage around 3:30 p.m.
All funds and toys raised will go to local children in need, turned over to the Fort Myers Beach fire department.
Those attending are asked to bring a toy or donation for the cause, and Lou offers an extra service in case you can’t make it to the benefit.
“We hope that everyone who comes brings a toy or donation for the event. If anyone would like to donate and not attend, just call 765-6102 and I’ll set it up to where I’ll come and personally pick up the donations,” he said.
The toy run
Of course, the toy drive and benefit isn’t complete without the Patrick Stott Holiday Toy Run. The eighth annual run began eight years ago by Lou and good friend and Casey’s Alley owner Patrick Stott. After his fatal windsurfing accident in November of 2002, Lou continued holding the benefit in his honor.
As the Beach Pub owner says, the poker-run ride is focused on more riding than bar-hopping.
“We go on a 90-mile run it has a lot less stops and a lot more riding. People seem to really appreciate that. It’s pretty much all country riding, winding roads. It’s all about the ride it always has been. That’s what Patrick was all about being in the wind,” he said.
The run begins at the Beach Pub at 10 a.m. and the cost to ride is $10. For more information, call 765-6102.
About the Beach Pub
Lou said the Beach Pub’s recently gone through some further remodeling, adding a couple of flat-screen TVs and going from coolers to ice troughs, which Lou says makes the beer, “as cold as it gets.”
Enjoy Mug Club happy hour from Monday to Friday, 4 to 8 p.m. and receive a 22-oz. beer-filled Beach Pub mug for $5, and refill it at a reduced rate. Join the VIP club and refill that mug for even cheaper.
Oh, and don’t worry about forgetting your mug at home next time you head to the Pub. It’s safely stored on premises, hung on the ceiling for safe keeping. Also, feel free to decorate it.
Hours of the Beach Pub are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
