General manager Steve DeAngelis said the Yucatan Beach Stand’s first July 4th hot dog eating contest was a great success. “The winners, as well as all the contestants, put down some serious food,” he said.

In a series of three rounds, finalists Mark Ralich (eating six quarter-pound dogs and buns) The Beach Observer’s editor Bob Petcher (who ate all six dogs in 10 minutes) and Cecil Hudgins made it to a three-way tie-breaker. Each finalist had to eat The Yucatan’s legendary half-pound Homewrecker in five minutes. Finishing the entire abomination was Bob Petcher at the buzzer. “Unbelievable! Great job to all of the contestants.”
