Danny’s Saloon to hold benefit for local musicians
Danny’s Saloon will be hosting a benefit for local musicians and friends Greg Watts and Richie Iannuzzi on Sunday, June 30 at their Fort Myers establishment on San Carlos Boulevard. “Come June 30 at 2 p.m. to support our friends. Here at Danny’s we love throwing benefits for those in need but always hate the reasons,” said owner Missy Bird-Holder. Both men, locals for more than 30 years, are dealing with medical issues and mounting bills.
Danny’s Saloon is located at 16200 San Carlos Boulevard off island in Fort Myers.
Greg Watts is a local musician, currently with the Unknown Jazzers who perform at Danny’s Saloon. He has been in the hospital for six weeks but is recovering. He has moved into rehab, but financially this is putting a large strain on his livelihood and bills, organizers said.
Richie Iannuzzi, a regular in the Monday night Danny’s Blues Jame, has been diagnosed with a serious illness and has been unable to perform as a musician.
“Greg and Richie are musicians by trade and have both donated their time and talent for every benefit that we have thrown,” Bird-Holder said. :Greg has also played many other benefits over the past 30 years on the island.”
Watts was a member of the Mary Winner Band and Habitat For Harmony with Mary Winner, Steve ‘Lucky Dog’ Lutke and Dave Potter.
Iannuzzi, a jazz and blues drummer, founded the Mambo Brothers in 1991 at Peter’s Brick Bar in Naples and blues band The Juice formed in 1995 and lasted for more than 20 years. He has been a member of Sacred Heart Church Band for over 15 years.
The Benefit Jam will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature raffles, 50-50, live music, dancing, drinks and food.
Organizers Bird-Holder and Lena Neroni are accepting donated gift cards, money, food, guest room stays, pool days at resorts, boat trips or any other items that can be raffled at the event. For more information, contact dannyssaloon@gmail.com or call (239) 466-8400.
