Fort Myers Beach Library Giant Book Sale sets record
The Friends of the Fort Myers Beach Public Library’s “Giant Book Sale” brought in sales of $2,648.86 this past weekend, establishing a new mark
With thousands of titles available though the culling of inventory at the library over the past year and donations from the public, readers flocked to the sale and found titles ranging from classic collections of Mark Twain works to children’s books, modern mysteries and non-fiction subjects.
Jan Fleming, a member of the Fort Myers Beach Public Library board, said there were 50 volunteers who helped organize the sale including three high school students from Canterbury School in Fort Myers. “What wonderful young adults,” Fleming said.
The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation raised over $600 through the sale of #WeAreFMB merchandise and their new cookbook. The proceeds will be used for the foundation’s scholarship program. Local artist Chester Rogers offered free sketches of children.
Mary Pedersen of Illinois and daughter Hannah Grace picked up several books, including “The Cake Bible” and a book on birds. Pedersen said she and her family “always stop by the Fort Myers Beach Public Library on our first or second day,” when visiting town.
“There is plenty of stuff for everybody,” said John Schuyler of Rochester, New York while picking up a book by Michael Crichton.
Schuyler said he visits Fort Myers Beach “once a year, usually this time of year, to get away from the snow. I love that they are more open here in Florida. People are being careful.”
