Lovers Key Boat Show begins Friday
Annual boat exhibition will feature cars, vendors, seafood and ice cream
The Lovers Key Boat Show, Market & Seafood Fest is one event returning off island this year. A horde of boats, cars, vendors as well as seafood and ice cream offerings will be on hand at the Lovers Key State Park event field in Fort Myers Beach this weekend.
The event field, across the street from the entrance to Lovers Key State Park’s beach and trails, is expected to have more than 60 vendors on hand, said The Rotary Club of Bonita Springs President Bob Lombardo.
“It’s all for a good cause,” Lombardo said.
The event benefits the charities of the rotary club as well as The Friends of Lovers Key and their ongoing project to install exhibits and furnishings at the welcome and discovery center. An estimated 5,000 people attended the show over the course of three days last year.
There will be five boat dealers on hand this weekend as well as a new twist – Alpha Romeo cars from a local dealership, Lombardo said. There will be dozens of other vendors selling everything from electric bikes to jewelry items, beach apparel, boat parts, as well as arts and crafts. There will also be a DJ and magician.
Aside from the boats, the highlights of the show are the food offerings.
Rudi Weber’s waffle and ice cream stand, known as “Lynn’s Real Homemade Ice Cream,” is a standout. The popular waffle choices and ice cream flavors are joined by shaved ices and root beer floats.
Lombardo calls Weber’s Belgian Leige homemade waffle “the best breakfast sandwich I ever had.”
The show will have an attendant on hand throughout the weekend to clean and sanitize chairs and tables underneath the tent at the park, Lombardo said. Masks will be available and social distancing will be encouraged with signs, he said.
The event will run from Friday to Sunday and opens at 9 a.m. The show closes at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The cost to enter is $5 per person. Children 10 and under are free. Parking is free.
