Man found dead in water in Pink Shell Resort Marina
Lee County Sheriff's Office rules drowning accidental
A 45-year-old man accidentally drowned in the water in the Pink Shell Resort Marina on Fort Myers Beach Saturday afternoon, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Anita Iriarte said the person is believed to have fallen off his boat and drowned. The residence of the deceased was unknown according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He was the captain of the Wendy I, a boat docked at the marina.
According to the incident report, the Sheriff’s Office was notified at approximately 3:45 p.m. by a woman who reported the captain may have fallen overboard.
Lee County Sheriffs Beach units, Lee County Marine units, US Coast Guard, Fort Myers Beach Fire and Rescue, Iona Fire Department, and Sanibel Fire Rescue Boat responded to the scene to locate the male. Iona Fire Department divers located the male submerged below the dock.
He was ruled dead after being recovered from the water and lifesaving attempts to revive him by the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department were unsuccessful, according to Fort Myers Beach Fire Department Executive Assistant Chief Ron Martin.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also assisted at the scene.
