Fort Myers Beach advisory committees have openings
The Town of Fort Myers Beach has a number of openings on its advisory committees. The town council appoints members to the advisory committees for two-year terms. The council will be making a new round of appointments in October.
The deadline for applying to the town council for the volunteer positions is Sept. 18. The committees advise the town council on a host of issues and sometimes vote on advisory opinions.
For example, the town’s Local Planning Agency made rulings on the proposed dune/lagoon walkover which the town council opposed. The council is currently weighing options on overhauling its Bay Oaks Recreational Campus based on suggestions by the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus Advisory Board.
The town’s advisory committees and openings are as follows:
Anchorage Advisory Committee: four seats which expire in October and one vacant seat
Audit Committee: three seats which expire in October
Bay Oaks Recreational Campus Advisory Board: three seats which expire in October; one vacant seat
Community Resource Advisory Board: two seats currently held expiring in October; three vacant seats
Cultural and Environmental Learning Center Advisory Board (CELCAB): four seats expiring in October
Local Planning Agency (also the town’s historic preservation board): three seats expiring in October; one vacant seat
Marine Resources Task Force: four seats expiring in October
Public Safety Committee: three seats expiring in October; one vacant seat
Each of the committees meet monthly, except CELCAB which meets quarterly.
To be considered, interested residents need to fill out and return an application, which can be found online, by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 to the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall, 2525 Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach, 33931.
