ABC Fine Wine & Spirits opens new store
At the busy gateway to Fort Myers Beach on Summerlin Boulevard next to Aldi and across the road from the Beach Kiwanis Thrift Shop is a new business making a large investment – ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.
In the same family’s hands since opening in Florida during the Great Depression under founder Jack Holloway, the mega store’s newest location features thousands of brands of beverages, gourmet food, snacks, cigars and accessories.
This particular store features a high-end wine showcase ranging from more affordable choices to pricier selections such as the $269.98 Roederer Cristal and $369.98 Dom Perignon P2 vintage champagne. Renee Matchett, the store’s wine and spirits specialist, described the display as its “wines of distinction.”
There is a vast walk-in cooler featuring a wide variety of beer, including “tons of craft beer,” said manager Kyle Sprague.
You will also find one of the more impressive Davidoff displays of cigars locally in a humidor packed with a diverse selection of cigars.
For the hungry, the store has a gourmet section that is focused on side dishes, desserts and snacks stocked with salami, an assortment of cheeses, pickles, chocolate, chips and dip.
The store opened in July, the newest addition to one of more than 120 owned by the company throughout the state.
The store hopes to open its activity center soon, where beer lovers can fill up growlers and crowlers with their favorite craft beer selections. There will also be a wine sampling center with eight wines on tap as well as spirits, Matchett said.
“The newer stores have the activity center,” she said. “When the pandemic lifts a little, we will also do our wine tasting events. Usually the last Thursday of every month we have a big wine tasting event. Twice a year we have a very big event – we have outside vendors come in. Local restaurants will come in and serve some food. It’s a lot of fun.”
