Beaches, trails reopen at Lovers Key State Park
After several days of a limited opening of just the boat ramp, Lovers Key State Park opened up its beachfront on Fort Myers Beach as well as some of its trails on Thursday.
Swimming, sunbathing, hiking and among the activities being allowed again. Folks heading to the beach will have to walk there as the park is still restricting public access to the tram service. All rentals of kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, bicycles as well as beach chair and umbrellas are suspended until further notice, according to the state park’s website. According to park personnel, visitors are allowed to bring in their own beach chairs, umbrellas and the usual beachgoing equipment.
Eagle Trail and Service Road Trail are closed for construction.
The park was reopened by Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday as part of a statewide reopening of state parks, but Lover Key State Park only initially opened up its boat ramp to the public. The park’s hours are 8 a.m. to sundown.
