County approves agreement with TPI for Margaritaville sky bridge

By Staff | May 1, 2020

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners has approved an agreement with TPI-FMB I, LLC to allow the company to construct a pedestrian bridge over Estero Boulevard for the Margaritaville project.

The hold harmless agreement states that TPI will be responsible for the construction, maintenance, and liability of the pedestrian bridge just north of Crescent Street to allow for pedestrians to cross from one side of Estero Boulevard to the other. The company will be responsible for all costs associated with the bridge including future maintenance.

The agreement grants a license to TPI for construction of a maximum width bridge of 15 feet over Estero Boulevard once Lee County Department of Transportation approves all construction details, including design features that prevent objects from falling from the bridge and advance warning signs to prevent oversize vehicles traveling Estero Boulevard from striking the bridge.

The bridge will connect pedestrians to Margaritaville, a project which will be facing scrutiny during a scheduled hearing June 9 in front of the Florida Court of Appeal Second District. The hearing of the appeal by Chris Patton regarding a circuit court decision regarding the Margaritaville project approved by the Town of Fort Myers Beach Council, will take place at Stetson University in Tampa.
