Fort Myers Beach Public Library closed until further notice
For those looking for a reading oasis away from the coronavirus pandemic, they will have to find a place other than the Fort Myers Beach Library which is closed until further notice.
Library patrons will still be able to check out books by calling the library and picking up the books outside at the library’s lockers.
Fort Myers Beach Public Library Board President Sallie Seabury said a decision was made today following a phone canvass with board members and the library director to close the doors of the library to the public.
Seabury said library staff will be on site to answer phones, take orders and catalog books but said that “we’ve had people who are freightened by (coronavirus).”
Seabury said the call to close the library’s doors to the public was done out of “an abundance of caution. We have an awful lot of people in and out.”
Book fines will be waved during the closure. “It’s for public safety,” Seabury said.
