Friends of the Mound House fundraiser March 27
The Friends of the Mound House will be holding its third “Artful Intersection,” a live auction March 27 at the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club on Sterling Avenue.
The auction will feature local art and other “experiences,” said Friends of the Mound House Vice President Gayle Crabtree-Pergoli.
The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the organization. The program will start at 7:15 p.m. and the auction will begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $75 and tax deductible. They are available for purchase at the Mound House or by contacting Ceel Spruler at 239-765-6472. Checks should be made to the Friends of the Mound House, Crabtree-Pergoli said.
Among the items up for auction are works of art by Joanne Shamp, Lisa Grinter, Sanibel artist Ikki Matsumoto and the Paint Around Collage from the Fort Myers Beach Art Association which was purchased by Ellen and Pat Vaughan. Other experiences up for grabs include a pizza party by Jordan Webster and his portable woodburning pizza oven, and a concert from the Pearl Street Band.
The Mound House, located at 451 Connecticut Street, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The National Historic Site educates the public about the Calusa tribe that controlled this territory until being overrun by the Spanish, disease and competing Native American tribes. A home was built over an estimated 2,000-year-old Calusa shell mound which is the center of attention at the site.
