Bay Oaks to host health fair
To help make island residents as healthy as possible, the Bay Oaks Recreational Center will be the site of a health fair Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Daniell Felton, program director for Bay Oaks, said this will be first time such a health-focused fair is being held at the center in a decade. The program will be free to the public and to vendors.
“This was a suggestion from the Bay Oaks Advisory Board,” Felton said, “to get everybody on the island together to see what opportunities they have to stay healthy.”
Felton has lined up local businesses and health professionals to attend the fair. They include Smiles With Care Dentistry, chiropractor Nicole Bennett, Lee Health, IslandFit Physical Therapy and Wellness.
There will be a demonstration from the Fort Myers Beach Yoga Project, Felton said. There will be a fitness class and a presentation from SHIFT Formula. Wave of Vitality will have free samples of smoothies and shakes.
The Fort Myers Fire District will be conducting screenings, though Felton said the exact nature of the screenings has not yet been determined.
Felton said that health-related businesses and professionals who are interested in setting up a table or otherwise participating can contact Bay Oaks Recreational Center at 765-4222.
The Bay Oaks Recreational Center is at 2731 Oak St.
