Friends of the Fort Myers Beach Library to put on giant book sale this weekend
By NATHAN MAYBERG
The next giant garage book sale to benefit the Fort Myers Beach Public Library will be held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17, at the library garage.
The book sale will feature mostly used books, but some that have never been read, said Jan Fleming, a Friends of the Fort Myers Beach Library Board member. Those available for sale are “books that have been donated or have come off the shelves from circulation,” Fleming said. There will be a mix of old and new, though the most popular titles tend to be mystery, cooking and children’s books.
Fleming expects there to be more than 2,000 books available in all. It’s not just books either. The sale will include CD’s, DVD’s, puzzles, notepads and magnets. Hard cover books will be on sale for $2 and paperbacks will be going for $1.
For the first time, the sale will also feature items from the local garden club. Fleming said the garden club will be selling herbs, water and baked goods.
“All of our profits we donate up to $20,000 for whatever the library needs,” Fleming said. “We always ask the director for a wish list.”
Fleming, who is a volunteer at the Fort Myers Beach Library book store, said there is a need for volunteers to help out with this weekend’s sale. Fleming said assistance is needed on the morning of Friday, Nov. 15 to help set up the books for sale and on Sunday in the afternoon to box them up. Those who wish to help can contact the library at 765-8162. If you wish to donate books to the sale, you can drop them off on the first floor of the library, Fleming said. Library volunteers will also help unload the books from your vehicle.
For those who can’t make it to this weekend’s book sale, the next one will be held Jan. 18-19. The library is at 2755 Estero Blvd.
