Swing Into Summer Golf Tournament registration underway

By Staff | May 8, 2019

An annual Fort Myers Beach tournament is making a comeback, now in its third year, for all those golf enthusiasts.

Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce President Jacki Liszak said when she became the president she learned they used to do a golf tournament years ago, and when she was asked over and over about it, she decided to pick the tradition back up.

This year the third annual Swing Into Summer Golf Tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Spring Run Golf Club, 9501 Spring Run Blvd., Estero.

Liszak said players should start arriving by 7 a.m.

The tournament, which is open to the public, is $350 for a team of four, or $100 per player.

“If you are a single player, call us, and we will match you up with a team,” she said.

The registration includes a buffet with dessert, a round of 18 holes, raffle prizes and giveaways. Those interested can register at www.fortmyersbeach.org/events/swing-into-summer/, stop by the Chamber office at 2450 Estero Blvd, call (239) 454-7500, or email events@fmbchamber.com.

“We’ve been having around 15 to 20 teams. We are hoping to grow it again this year,” Liszak said.

First-, second- and third-place winners will receive a trophy, as well as those who are closest to the pin and have the longest drive.

The Chamber will have drink carts during the tournament.

Liszak said different organizations are sponsoring a hole, offering a fun event for the golfers to participate in at the holes. The hole sponsors as of May 6 include Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille, Kiwanis Club Fort Myers Metro McGregor, State Insurance USA, Fort Myers Beach Realty Inc, St. Rafael’s Church and Snook Bright Marina.

Liszak said they are working on a hole-in-one sponsor, anyone wanting to donate a car, or boat, “we would be all about it.”

“It’s super fun and we have all kinds of raffles,” she said adding that some include round trip tickets, great hotel stays and Key West Express tickets.

Tournament sponsors are still being sought for hole sponsors, drink sponsor and tournament sponsor. To become a sponsor visit www.fortmyersbeach.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/golf-tournament-application.pdf, or call the Chamber at (239) 454-7500.

The sponsors as May 6 include Edward Jones, lunch sponsor; ChrisTel Construction, ball logo sponsor; Jungle Golf, shirt sponsor; iBeria Bank, drink sponsor and Seminole Casino Hotel, goodie bag sponsor.

Proceeds from the tournament will go towards a water studies grant that the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce is starting.

“Information should be coming out shortly. We are going to do two grants a year, every six months we will be giving out some money. We are very excited about it. We are putting together the perimeters right now. This golf tournament will go towards covering the cost of it,” Liszak said.
