‘Game of Thrones’ themed pirate ship cruise

By Staff | May 8, 2019

The Pieces of Eight Pirate Ship has set a course for “Game of Thrones” fans – a Finale Cruise is set for the day before the popular television series comes to a close. Trivia, costume contest and barrel tapping of Wicked Dolphin Distillery rum will be featured.

Marketing Director David Kastan said the idea for the finale cruise “came straight from the pirates.”

“They are all big ‘Game of Thrones’ fans,” he said.

Pieces of Eight Pirate Ship Captain Stephen Sepulveda said they wanted to offer a Finale Cruise because “Game of Thrones” is a big thing in the media right now.

“A lot of people that work on the pirate ship are fans of ‘Game of Thrones,'” he said, adding that they wanted to put something fun and interesting together with trivia, as well as some drink specials and a sword fight. “It’s a fun celebration of these last 10 years of ‘Game of Thrones.'”

Sepulveda said his girlfriend, who has read all the books and seen all of the shows, got him into the series.

“I recently have been binge watching. I’m definitely falling in love with it. It’s sad to see it come to an end. It’s an amazing show,” he said.

Kastan said that tickets were already selling really well as of May 6.

The adult-only cruise will sail from Salty Sam’s Marina, 2500 Main St., Fort Myers Beach, at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 18 for the 90-minute cruise. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.FloridaPirateCruise.com.

A Best Men’s and Women’s Costume contest will be held with the winner receiving a gift certificate to Red Headed Witch and a free ticket aboard the Key West Express will be given to the Game of Thrones Trivia contest winner. The cruise also will feature music and dancing.

Sepulveda said they definitely encourage people to come in their best themed character costume.

A rum tasting will run from 6 to 7 p.m., at Parrot Key.

“Anyone who has a ticket can sample the flavors. On board, Wicked Dolphin will tap the barrel and (everyone) will get a taste on board,” he said.

The Pieces of Eight Pirate Ship, a 65-foot replica Spanish Galleon, has three decks, a full service bar and two full washrooms.
