Fort Myers Beach Art Association Announces Spring Show Winners
On Sunday, the Fort Myers Beach Art Association crowned the winners of their spring juried show, “Under the Sun.”
The work, strictly two-dimensional paintings submitted by FMBAA members, was judged by artist Bea Pappas.
The $300 first prize was awarded to Brian Christensen for his acrylic painting, Ring Tenders.
Second prize went to Mimi Little for Congregation, and third prize to Cherie Mulcahy for Intrigue.
Dannica Walker and Joanne LaPadula both won merit awards for their pieces, and Sue Pink and Lynne Weslowski won honorable mentions.
There were also two special awards: the $100 Lee Ackert Memorial Award for Exceptional Color went to Kathy Summer, and the $100 Florida Watercolor Society Award was given to Julie Nusbaum.
The award ceremony was accompanied by gallery talks with Marge Lee and Renee Chastant.
Lee is the founder of consulting firm MuseumWord, where she helps museums with concept development and creative writing.
She is also the host of Art Chat on Shell Point TV, and the arts advisor and volunteer curator for the upcoming Tribby Arts Center at Shell Point.
Chastant is a watercolor artist who has exhibited in Arizona, Texas, and Southwest Florida who has a “love affair with color.”
The speakers offered advice on framing work, writing artist biographies, and hanging art shows.
“Under the Sun” will be exhibited until March 21, and all artwork is available for purchase.
A solo show by FMBAA artist Lucille Cessna currently occupies Studio 2 until Feb. 22.
