Bayside Estates Flea Market moves to this weekend
The annual Bayside Estates Flea Market has been pushed up a couple of weeks this year to this Friday and Saturday.
Deb Wescoat, a member of the Women’s Socialites, said the women started the sale almost 30 years ago as a yard sale because they wanted a fountain at the pool. About 25 years ago, the Men’s Club got involved and now the women and men run the market together.
The Bayside Estates Flea Market is typically held the first weekend of February, but has been moved to Friday, Jan. 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.
“Usually the good stuff goes on Friday,” Wescoat said. “On Friday we usually have about 200 people lined up outside when it opens at 8 a.m.”
The park, she said participates by donating, sorting, marking and buying the items.
“It’s all products that the residents have donated,”she said.
The sale includes anything you can think of, Wescoat said . . . appliances, books, clothing, linens, kitchen items, tools, seasonal items, furniture, lamps, arts and craft items, clothing and a collectable department. In addition there is usually such big consignment items as cars, boats and motorhomes for sale. The flea market will also have a bakery and a fruit and vegetable section.
“We serve donuts, coffee, drinks, chili and hot dogs for lunch,” Wescoat said.
The flea market is located both outside and inside of the clubhouse, located on Stevens Boulevard and Bayside Lane.
“It’s a fun time. The community all comes together and works together. It’s a great community event and we really enjoy doing it,” she said.
There is also a Chinese auction with prizes all worth more than $100. Individuals do not have to be present to win.
Bayside Estates is on the corner of San Carlos Boulevard and Pine Ridge Road.
