The Fort Myers Beach Little League finished out its 2017 season with a few swings on its home field.

The league’s Majors team, the Storm, Minors teams, the Cubs and the Twins and Minors softball team, the Thunder, got to play their last games May 20.

“We had a good season and good kids,” Little League President Shannon Orlandini said. “We’re fortunate to be on the beach, and everybody helps out.”

It was the first year in a while that the league had enough girls to play a team, and got some girls to participate in the minors.

Three senior boys also stepped up to the plate this year – or rather, behind the plate – to serve as junior umpires: Cole Parkes, Kevin Cherry and Joe Uecker. Charlie Whitehead, long-time Little League umpire, said he was blessed with a “good” problem as they were all eager to serve behind the plate so he had to have them take turns.

Umpires Louis Monaco, John Thompson and Charlie Whitehead helped train up junior umpires Cole Parkes, Kevin Cherry and Joe Uecker this season.

Chad Stevison stepped up to coach the Cubs team this year, and managed the Twins team.

“They’ve done a great job,” he said. “They’ve really improved from the start of the season to the finish.”

Thunder Minors girls team Coach Kim West, Manager Alexa Cherry and Coach Jannine Traficante congratulate their girls on their first season.

Storms Majors team manager Michael Dwyer and coaches Rob Thomas and Matt Frana give Austin Cherry his season medal.
