Organist featured at Chapel by the Sea concert

By Staff | Mar 22, 2011

Imagine taking a tour of Pipe Organs in our area and being delighted with discovering the unique beauty of each one. The sounds are amazing as can be demonstrated in the 400 years of repertoire for the organ as played in churches, synagogues and concert halls. And not only that, but these organs are integrated into their surroundings and there is always a story. This tour begins right here on the Beach on Sunday, March 27, at 2 p.m.. Come, see and hear our Moller Pipe Organ in concert. Chapel by the Sea has large screen display capability so you will be able to see Dr. Lorenz’s highly polished technique clearly. (Those foot pedals are really amazing to see and hear).

Included in the program will be works by Bach (Tocatta and Fugue in d minor) and Mendelssohn (Sonata No.1 for Organ), two giants of the organ world, as well as smaller works based on familiar melodies. Beloved hymn tunes will be played such as Come thou font of every blessing, We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing, and When in our music God is glorified.

The final concert in the 2010/2011 Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church Concert Series on Fort Myers Beach features Dr. James E. Lorenz. He is currently the Dean of the SW Florida Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and a well known musician in our area. In fact, he is the Organist and Choirmaster at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Fort Myers Florida and the assistant director for the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers.

Dr. Lorenz holds a Doctor of Music and a Master of Music in Organ Performance from Florida State University, having studied with Dr. Michael Corzine, and a Bachelor of Music in Church Music from Concordia College, Bronxville, New York, having studied with Dr. Richard Heschke.

Be sure to attend this afternoon concert and be delighted.

And remember that Michael Melnikov (Director of Music at Chapel by the Sea) is an excellent organist who plays this organ every Sunday as it was intended to be used in worship.

Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church is at 2500 Block of Estero Blvd. Call 463-3173 for more information. There will be a free will offering.
