Artist of the Month

Fred Bushnell is our artist of the month on display in the Conference Room for March. Enjoy both the larger paintings as well as the interesting and vibrant color gradations that he brings to his works. One can linger in the hard-edged lines and shapes that highlight most of the art pieces. Of particular note for appreciation is Fred’s ability to bring strong tonal contrast between the light areas of the subject and the dark background.

Magazines

Most of the magazines offered in the reading area on the second floor are made possible through the kindness and gift of businesses and patrons. Businesses have their card on the front binder-support them. Thanks also to those who donate for a subscription. On the stand to the left of the front desk is a board with magazines seeking a current sponsor. Please look over the list and donate a magazine.

Community Center

Today’s libraries act as a new type of community center, a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to seek help, connect with others, and get access to the information and services they need. In 2009, 169 million people in the United States visited a public library to find work, apply for college, secure government benefits, learn about critical medical treatments, access the Internet, and, of course, check out books, etc.

According to the 2010 report “Maximize the Potential of Your Public Library” published by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), 74 percent of respondents said the library is an important asset for their own computer and Internet use and 84 percent said the library is an important asset for the community. This is a comment we hear many times. On Monday of this week, we had 696 people who used the library in person and in looking over the users, the ICMA report really told it like it is.

Library Hours

When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162, or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9-8, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9-5, and Saturday 9-1. We look forward to seeing you.
