Man charged with burglarizing vehicles
A Cape Coral man is accused of robbing multiple vehicles over the weekend.
Mark Edward Pensmith, 24, of 5037 Pelican Blvd., was charged Saturday with four counts each of possession of burglary tools with intent to use, burglary of unoccupied conveyance unarmed and resist officer obstruct without violence. He was also charged with three counts of larceny theft $300 or more but less than $5,000 and one count of petit larceny.
On Monday, Pensmith remained at the Lee County Jail.
He was denied bond on charges dating back to August, including one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, electric weapon or device; possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams; and possession and/or use of narcotic equipment, according to jail booking records.
According to officials, Cape police responded to an anonymous call at 2:52 a.m. Saturday about someone breaking into a vehicle in the 5100 block of Southwest 12th Place. The caller said the man was wearing a black shirt and tan pants and was holding a white towel.
The caller also stated that the man left the area on a bicycle.
Officers surrounded the neighborhood and looked for the suspect. A man matching the caller’s description was located near the intersection of Skyline Boulevard and Southwest 51st Terrace. When an officer identified himself to the man, the man dropped his bicycle and fled on foot, officials reported.
The man, later identified as Pensmith, was apprehended and detained.
According to officials, a consensual search of Pensmith revealed several items including an iPod Nano, three GPS systems and cash. The man was also in possession of a mask, towel and flashlight. Police learned that Pensmith had broken into four vehicles before officers caught him.
