Resident sounds off on town council

By Staff | Jul 29, 2009

To the editor:

How sanctimonious of our Town Council. How politically correct, but very naive they are. All those islanders who say, “We are not Sanibel” have just proved themselves wrong by the summary dismissal of our Town Manager.

Instead of distancing ourselves from Jazella Moore, we should be embracing her, just like Key West would have done. Fort Myers Beach should have made Jazella our goodwill ambassador.

Single-handedly Jazella would have cured the summer business doldrums on our island. Just as Key West trumped up a Hemingway Festival during the summer slow season to make good business for their merchants, we could have started summer Porn Festival with Jazella crowning a new queen each year.

Think of it, every hotel and restaurant would be packed for this event. Fathers from near and far would suddenly have a reason to come to here, and their families would be in tow.

Remember, we are a family island after all. That’s why we have become the epicenter for such wholesome family events like Spring Break and the Cincinatti Fire fighters.

Lighten up Town Council. Live and let live.
