Mack: Democrat’s Paygo Bill is nothing more than smoke and mirrors
Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), a member of the House Budget Committee, blasted Democrats for passing sham PAYGO (pay-as-you-go) legislation that relies heavily on tax hikes to offset new spending.
Mack said:
“The Democrats’ PAYGO legislation is a meager attempt to look fiscally responsible. Their legislation has so many loopholes and exceptions that it does nothing to address the real problem: out-of-control spending that has led to record federal debts and huge budget deficits.
“What’s more, the Democrats’ legislation fails to address the unsustainable rates of entitlement spending growth, which, if left unchecked, will consume our federal budget and bankrupt our country.
“That’s why I supported a Republican alternative that would have capped federal deficits and required across-the-board spending cuts when the budget grows faster than our economy.
“With our nation’s balance sheet awash in red ink and the federal debt and deficit breaking the bank, the path to our nation’s economic recovery starts with restoring fiscal discipline to Washington. This bill does not do that. The American people deserve better.”
