Fund-raiser to help nonprofit offer education scholarships to members
The Women’s Council of Realtors, a national nonprofit organization, is hosting a fund-raiser tonight at the Cape Harbour pavilion.
The Fort Myers and Cape Coral chapters are hoping to raise enough funds to help with education scholarships for its members.
Council member and Security Title and Trust President Lauren Harmon said that with the current real estate market, it is important for the group’s members to stay informed as the approach to the market changes on a daily basis.
“It’s extremely important so we can keep our Realtors educated and in the field,” she said. “Lending programs are constantly changing.”
The theme of the fund-raiser will be “Bags, Bling, and Bubbly,” and will feature “gently used” handbags, wallets and jewelry, which will be put up for auction.
Harmon said all the items have been donated. The Women’s Council of Realtors specifically requested that gently used items be donated in an effort to be green.
She added that there will be approximately 200 handbags and 200 different pieces of jewelry to bid on.
“This is the first time we’ve done this particular type of auction, though we do constant fund raising for the scholarships,” Harmon said. “Sometimes we use it for tuition reimbursement, sometimes it’s used to further education in our fields so we can better serve our community.”
Despite the prevailing notion that Lee County’s real estate market is a wasteland, Harmon said her company has been doing swift business.
Homes are being sold, just not being reported, she said.
“On a positive note, our inventory is moving,” Harmon said. “Last month was my best month in four years.”
The fund-raiser begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Cape Harbour pavilion, 5710 Chiquita Blvd. Entry fee is $10, which includes drinks and appetizers.
