Sander Obit
Paul Sander
Paul Sander, the son of a pioneering Fort Myers Beach family, died July 6. He was 65.
Paul’s grandfather, George Sander, came to the beach with the Koreshans at the turn of the last century and started Sander Boat Yard where the SnookBight Marina now stands.
Paul’s father, Gene Sander, continued the boat yard until the mid to late sixties, catering to the island’s shrimp boats and storing smaller boats for some of the county’s best known and wealthiest people.
Paul grew up at the boat yard and was the starting pitcher on the 1959 beach Travelers Babe Ruth League team in the county championship game that year. It was the first time a beach team had played in the county championship game.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Fred; his mother, Wilma; and his father. He is survived by two children, four grandchildren and his sister, Joyce Walker, of North Fort Myers.
