Cape officer airlifted to Miami
Damien Garcia, a Cape Coral police officer injured in a motorcycle accident two weeks ago while on duty, was transported to a Miami hospital Tuesday to be closer to his family.
Garcia remains in critical condition.
“I hope we can all look at today as a positive step on his road to recovery and not to see it sadly for ourselves because we cannot be as close to him as we would prefer to be,” Cape Coral Police Chief Rob Petrovich said in a prepared statement.
Garcia was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital on June 2 after the motorcycle accident at Cultural Park Boulevard.
“I cannot say enough about the medical and support staff at Lee Memorial Hospital and how they worked with us these past two weeks, accommodating our needs as well as Damien’s family,” Petrovich said.
Although not requested by Garcia’s family, the Fraternal Order of Police set up a “Special Needs Account” at TIB Bank for his family members. Donors can give by cash or check at any TIB Bank location to the Special Needs Account, C/O FOP Lodge 33.
