Injured officer still critical
The condition of a Cape Coral police officer critically injured in a traffic crash is unchanged this morning.
Officer Damien Garcia remains in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital.
The prognosis for Garcia remains unknown as medical workers concentrate on two areas of focus – keeping Garcia alive and his recovery.
Officials said today there are concerns.
“This is not the best news, and our concerns have deepened for Officer Garcia,” said Cape Coral Police Chief Rob Petrovich in a prepared statement. “I do not want to mislead anybody and give false hopes; however, I am reminded of how we hear about situations that once seemed hopeless and ended up promising. I refuse to focus on anything except the miracle we all hope to see.”
Petrovich again is asking the community to keep Officer Garcia and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
The department said it will continue to keep the public updated as to Garcia’s condition.
