Bokeelia Boat Ramp to close for renovation
Lee County Parks & Recreation will close the Bokeelia Boat Ramp and Cottages for major renovations starting Monday, July 6. Work is expected to take six to nine months.
The ramp, located on Pine Island’s north end off Barrancas Avenue, will be much improved upon reopening. The project includes a new, two-lane boat ramp; new sections of seawall; new docks, including one for kayaks; paved parking area with storm water management; a new ADA-accessible restroom building; and, landscaping. The $1.5 million project will be done by Fort Myers-based Compass Construction.
“The improvements that will be made to this ramp will create a better overall experience for Lee County’s boaters who want direct access from a public ramp to Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound,” said Dave Harner, acting deputy director of Lee County Parks & Recreation.
During renovations, boaters can use the ramp at the privately owned Pineland Marina, 13921 Waterfront Drive, Pineland. Or they can use the county’s nearby public ramps Matlacha Park (seven days a week) and Pine Island Commercial Marina (weekends and holidays only). For locations and hours, go to www.leeparks.org.
