The National Society of High School Scholars announced this week that Cape Coral High School student Lukas D. Neumann was selected as a member of the prestigious organization.
The association is different than a traditional honor society. It connects different students from across the country and provides them with resources to be successful.
Neumann said Thursday that he is excited to be a new member of the association, which does not accept many students.
“I was basically ecstatic and so were my parents and everybody,” he said. “It looks good on a college resume that you have been able to exceed.”
Students accepted into the association need a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, have an involvement in extracurricular activities and experience as a leader. Neumann is in the 10th grade and is enrolled in the IB program, participates in the school’s JROTC and plays tennis and lacrosse.
“I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing, keeping my grades up and making sure I can stay in there,” he said.
Once Neumann graduates high school, he said he would like to attend Duke University or any other school that has a forensic science program.
Neumann was notified of his acceptance by Claes Nobel, founder of the association and part of the Nobel Prize family, who congratulated Neumann for his academic achievement.
Students in the National Society of High School Scholars are given the opportunity to network with other peers around the world and gain access to scholarships, academic competitions and other national-level events.
The association was founded in 2002 and there are more than 300,000 members in 120 countries, according to the organization.
