Stop State Parks & Aquatic Preserve Cuts

By Staff | May 13, 2009

To the editor:

Florida Parks and Coastal & Aquatic Managed Areas are being very seriously threatened with deep cuts and closures this week. The only chance for survival of our coastal resource protection and maintenance is for Governor Crist to veto this legislation.

I am writing to appeal to everyone on this list to call Governor Crist (850-488-7146) or send the attached form letter before May 15, 2009 as a concerned citizen in support of public access to public lands. I have included the e-mail contact list for your convenience below. Just copy and paste the addresses below into the “To” line of your e-mail editor/browser and the letter into the body of the e-mail with your “signature” and hit send!

I cannot impress upon you how important that it is for the State of Florida to keep this program. If you are a fisherman, kayaker, boater, hunter, birder, etc., you should know that eliminating the Parks & CAMA in Florida will not only disrupt public access but put our aquatic habitats in danger. Eco-tourism is one of Florida’s top sources of revenue. CAMA ensures the health of our fisheries, bird rookeries and public access to waters that we might not otherwise have. They support our economy by providing the quality aquatic ecosystems that bring people to Florida and drive our economy. We cannot afford to stop protecting our coastal resources because it is the lifeblood of Florida.

If you are as concerned about the proposed changes to our award winning CAMA and state parks programs as we are, please call, write or email Governor Crist and our local legislators and tell them to protect our access to water, public open space and outdoor recreation.

Regards,

Karen Bickford
