ASQ invites local education leaders to summit

By Staff | May 12, 2009

School superintendents from kindergarten to grade 12 throughout the Fort Myers area are invited to share their challenges and learn innovative solutions at the Education Leadership Summit for Superintendents, June 1819, at the Sanibel Harbour Resort in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Summit is sponsored by the American Society Quality which provides continuous improvement resources to K-12 schools.

President Obama has highlighted education reform as one of our nation’s top priorities. Creating more efficient school districts with exceptional 21st century learning environments will take improved project management, communication and problem-solving skills.

At the summit, morning sessions begin with interactive coaching sessions and presentations, followed by small-group roundtables and networking sessions where assessments reveal issues and opportunities identified by summit attendees as being most relevant to them. District leadership teams will then be able to address their challenges with others through strategic dialogues using a proven framework of excellence that integrates all components necessary to lead a system focused on increasing student learning and improving organizational performance.

Summit speakers include some of this country’s most successful and motivational education leaders:

nTerry Holliday – Superintendent of the 2008 Baldrige Award-winning Iredell-Statesville Schools, Statesville, N.C. Holliday will focus on how school districts can become process-centered organizations with cross-functional teams to achieve systems improvement.

nBob Ewy – Author, consultant and former director of planning and quality programs for the 2003 Baldrige Award-winning Community Consolidated School District 15, Palatine, Ill. Ewy will host the coaching session “Getting to Organizational Excellence by Systems Alignment, Integration, and Deployment.” Learn the keys to alignment, integration and deployment from examples of Ewy’s work with his district and with others.

nMike Miles – Superintendent of Harrison School District Two, Colorado Springs, Colo. Miles will emphasize the benefits of systems thinking in district improvement efforts and how to operationalize systems thinking for better results.

Roundtable discussion topics will be linked directly to the keynotes. They will include:

nInteractive dialogue around the keynote presentations

nHands-on exercises linked to the topics

“For any school district on the journey of continuous improvement, especially those interested in the Baldrige process, this summit provides a strong framework for use in data-driven decision-making,” said Kim Cranston, chief communications officer for Rockwood School District in St. Louis, Mo. “It also offers a rare opportunity to network and build collaborations with other education leaders who share a mission to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”

This event offers personal coaching, sharing of practical, high-impact ideas as well as time to enjoy some socializing and fun in the sun.
