By Staff | May 11, 2009

Jim “Crash” Jensen, long-time Miami Dolphins utility player, and other former NFL players will take part in a fund raiser to benefit Lee Memorial Health System’s new Regional Cancer Center.
The fourth Annual “Evening with the Stars” will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the private home of Dr. James Orr, medical director for the new cancer center. Net proceeds from the Evening with the Stars will benefit programs and treatments for members of our community who are battling cancer.
Orr will co-host the benefit with fan favorite Jim “Crash” Jensen, a former Miami Dolphins star. Jensen played quarterback, running back, fullback, wide receiver, tight-end, holder and punt snapper. From 1984 to 1991, he turned 229 receptions into 132 first-downs, and from 1984 to 1988, he recorded a reception in 55 of 63 games. Jim Jensen’s wife Darlene will also be on hand to support the cause.
Guests of the event will have the opportunity to share a cocktail and talk about the upcoming football season with former NFL players. Scheduled to appear with Jensen is quarterback and four-time Pro Bowl selection Jim Hart accompanied by former NFL players Sean Hill, Bill Riehl, Harold Marrow (cancer survivor), Troy Drayton, Tom Sorenson, Dwayne White and Marvin Jones.
Todd Johnson of Rumrunners and celebrated new chef Fabrice Deletrain of The Joint will provide the evening’s culinary feast.
The event will feature a very special silent and live auction with a not-to-be missed opportunity to see Bruce Springsteen from the European tour city of your choice and a chance to meet the band in the highly exclusive “E-Street Lounge” — normally reserved only for Springsteen and the Band’s closest family and friends. For the sports-lover, it doesn’t get better than the opportunity to bid on joining the Miami Dolphins pre-game with on-field passes and tickets to a luxury suite at an upcoming game.
The silent auction will include fabulous trips and tickets to upcoming sporting events, as well one-of-a-kind hand-signed items from some of the greatest sports heroes of past and present including, “Mean” Joe Green, Derek Jeter, Dan Marino, Tony Dungy and members of the celebrated Pittsburgh Steelers’ “Steel Curtain”.
Space is very limited. Tickets are $175 per person. For more information and to purchase tickets, call the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation office at 239-985-3550.
