Tips to prevent spread offered

By Staff | May 5, 2009

The recommendations made to avoid the spread the H1N1 flu are a little different than those which should be followed at all times.
Among them:
— When coughing or sneezing, do so in a tissue, or while covering the mouth with a sleeve or within the inside of a coat or shirt.
— Hand washing — very often — eliminates the passing of germs to others.
— Parents should teach their children proper hygiene and habits, not only will it benefit them, but it may save you from catching the bugs they bring back from school.
Due to the fear brought on by the H1N1 flu, other recommendations have been made by officials. Tips for prevention can be found on the Lee County Health Department’s Web site at: www.leegov.com/healthdept/.
The department’s telephone number is 461-6180.
In addition to frequent hand washing and taking precautions when sneezing, the Florida surgeon general recommends the following:
— People with a respiratory illness should stay home from work or school to avoid spreading infections, including influenza, to others.
— Avoid close contact with people who are coughing or otherwise appear ill.
— Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
— People experiencing a cough, fever and fatigue, possibly along with diarrhea and vomiting, should contact their physician.
