BOCC approves Beach Re-Nourishment Interlocal Agreement
The Lee County Board of County Commissioners approved the Fort Myers Beach Renourishment Interlocal Agreement Tuesday morning at the BOCC meeting in Fort Myers.
Unresolved issues in the agreement created a seesaw exchange between county and town for much of the year. At the March 2 BOCC Management and Planning Meeting, the county board reached a consensus and provided direction to redraft the agreement with the town. However, at its April 6 meeting, the town council decided not to modify its February draft after in-depth discussion.
After the exchanges, the two parties decided to switch the prior obligation of the town to act as lead agency for easement acquisition to the county and to modify that prior costs in “no-fault termination prior to bid opening” would be shared expenses.
“After 12 years, the interlocal agreement has been approved,” said FMB Mayor Larry Kiker. “The BOCC recommended approval unanimously. So now, education and securing easements committments will begin.”
