Fort Myers police investigating attempted abduction

By Staff | Apr 16, 2009

Fort Myers police are looking for a man accused of assaulting a woman and attempting to abduct her Wednesday night or early this morning.
The 21-year old woman was walking in the area of First Street and Palm Beach Boulevard when a man driving a pickup truck approached her. The man asked if she needed a ride and she said no. He drove away but while in the area of Palm Beach and Marion she noticed he was circling the block as she walked. He eventually stopped his truck, approached her again and assaulted her, police said.
The woman fought back punching him in the face and mouth. She fled and later called police.
A detective was assigned to the case and after further investigation police believe this may have been an attempted abduction.
The victim described the suspect as a white male in his 40s. He was driving a red Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The woman suffered a minor injury during the incident.
Police believe this incident is unrelated to the suspicious person incident from last week, as the victims have given different suspect descriptions.
If you have information about this crime or any other crime officials ask that you call FMPD at 321-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
