Beach residents paddle the Peace River this weekend

By Staff | Apr 14, 2009

The 23rd annual Bill Thompson Beach Peace River paddling trip is this weekend.

The “after-season” trip to Arcadia will begin on Friday or Saturday for those wishing to camp out, but the actual all-day ride starts Sunday morning, according to event organizer Bill Thompson.

“Everyone will be meeting at 9 a.m. at Canoe Safari,” he said. “We’ve got people coming from the East Coast and from the Northern part of the state.”

Thompson – who would like to invite anyone interested to come along for the ride – has seen many different people attend the event and many of the same beach residents travel for the trip on a yearly basis.

“It’s a lot of fun,” he said. “We like it when the water level is lower because we get to slow the ride down. There’s also more beach along the river to take breaks and talk to each other.”

If interested in taking the two hour trip to Arcadia, contact Thompson at 699-4389.
