Community volunteers from Collier, Lee and Sarasota counties are sponsoring a free morning of fishing for those citizens with special needs on April 25, from 9 a.m.- noon. This is in conjunction with a “Day of Service” being held across 11 southern states, involving more than 400,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church is inviting the community to bring their special needs child or adult family members to join in the fun.
This event is free of charge and open to all special needs children and adults. The Sugden Regional Park in Collier County, Lakes Regional Park in Lee County, and Oscar Scherer State Park in Sarasota County are waiving all entrance fees for those participating in this event. Fishing equipment and refreshments will be supplied. No fishing licenses are required. All participants must be accompanied by a parent, staff or legal guardian.
The Church will be providing a free T-shirt with the event logo: “Reel Fun-Real Friends” to all special needs attendees.
This special project began almost six months ago with meetings with church members and local park officials, All Star Marketing, Bass Pro, Publix, Random Art House, Walmart, and other co-sponsors.
