A Cape Coral resident, Virginia Cervasio, says she’ll never know why her son took his life. She blamed herself. And when there were too few places to turn, this mom started her own non-profit organization.
For two years, Cervasio’s group “C.A.R.E.S.” has promoted awareness and counseling to countless adults and teens in Lee County and the surrounding area. People with nowhere to turn now have a place.
The Reader’s Digest Foundation, impressed with the suicide prevention resource center accomplishments, awarded a $100,000 grant toward the non-profit American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in the mother’s name.
C.A.R.E.S. works by helping families realize they can get each other through their grief. They hope to save lives in the process.
Beginning April 17, Cervasio and the C.A.R.E.S. team will hold its largest awareness event of the year: “30 Days of Hope”. A candlelight remembrance culminates with a concert, a baseball game, yard sale, and a picnic, a time for our community to share together.
