Sheriff’s employees compete in weight loss competition

2 min read

Lee County Sheriff’s Office employees completed the 5th Annual Fitness Challenge this week. The challenge was an agency wide, 12-week, weight loss competition designed to make winners of the “biggest weight losers.”

The total lost by participants this year was the most ever, 1,508.8 pounds.

Almost 100 Sheriff’s Office employees voluntarily participated in the challenge which began the first week in January.

Challengers weighed in at the start and finish of the 12 weeks. There were two categories of participation, individual and team. Winners received cash in the team category, funded from a minimal entry fee.

Meanwhile, the New Balance Store on Trailwinds Drive and Macy’s of Fort Myers were generous sponsors rewarding each male and female individual winner. The American Heart Association provided items as prizes in partnership in the Fitness Challenge, too.

The male and female individual category winners lost 68.8 pounds and 36 pounds respectively. The team competition was won by the Lockjaws, losing over 101 pounds.

The concept of this weight loss contest models the 9-1-1 Fitness Challenge. The 9-1-1 Challenge (911fitness.com) is on its 11th successful year and is run by retired Miami Police Lieutenant and former bodybuilder Jim Sayih. The goals of the challenges are simple; help promote weight loss and a healthier life style to those who serve and protect the public.
